Colorado State Forest - State Forest State Park
Nature photographs

Colorado State Forest is managed jointly by the Colorado State Forest Service (managing forestry operations) and Colorado Parks and Wildlife (which manages rereation and wildlife). Colorado Parks and Wildlife has called this area the "State Forest State Park." So the area is known by both names. For more information on the joint management, go to this Colorado State Forest Service article.
The first 9 of these pictures from Colorado State Forest were taken on August 18, 2007. The rest were taken on September 13th or 19th in 2002. Colorado State Forest is located at the west end of the Cache La Poudre Scenic Byway, just northwest of Rocky Mountain National Park.
There are two lakes in these pictures. The one surrounded by mountain peaks (with an island in the middle) is Lake Agnes, which can be reached by means of a 2.3 mile hike. It is a surreal experience, and well worth the effort to be there. I have made sure to make that hike every time I visit.
The other lake is Ranger Lake, a little less spectacular, but beautiful all the same. It is an easy stop along the road.
If you want to read an amusing article, check out the "Moose on the Loose" link below. (I did not see any moose on my trips except the taxidermy moose in the visitor's center.)
