Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park
Nature photographs

I have often despaired of capturing the beauty of a majestic canyon with a camera, and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison was no exception. How can one capture the enormity of the canyon in just one rectangle? And how do you capture the depth in a flat picture? Still I did the best I could and here are the results. These photographs were taken from the south rim of the canyon in July 2005. It was a partly overcast day.
I have just read the news that the views I have photographed on this page have changed dramatically in recent days. There has been a terrible fire at the south rim of the canyon, which began on July 20, 2025. You can find information here.
